Alexei Antonov is a painter working primarily in classical still life and portraiture, grounded in the techniques of the Flemish masters. His work explores light, texture and quiet narratives, balancing traditional craft with contemporary sensibility. The paintings are built slowly, in layers, with close attention to detail and atmosphere. This site presents a selection of his recent and earlier works as a concise portfolio for curators, galleries and collectors.
Painting for me is a way to slow time down and make attention visible. I am interested in how light touches objects, how silence can become a subject, and how a familiar motif can suddenly feel unfamiliar. Classical discipline is my starting point, not my limit: from it I move towards more experimental, fusion‑like imagery — where realism, surreal hints and expressive colour coexist. I trust the viewer to complete each painting with their own experience and questions.
Alexei Antonov was born in and currently lives and works in In the USSR, in the city of Baku. He start studied in Azerbaijan State Art College named after Azim Azimzade and has been dedicated to painting for several decades. His practice centres on classical still life and portraiture, later expanding into more experimental, fusion‑oriented works that combine realism with surreal and expressive elements. Antonov’s paintings have been shown in galleries, and are held in private collections in various places around the world. Over the years he has developed a personal method of layered oil painting inspired by historical techniques yet oriented towards contemporary sensibilities. Alongside studio work he has also shared his approach through teaching, publications and online projects.
