Smile New Guy - WIP - Western Buckles

Hi Y'all! Great site. I've been trolling here for a while and finally decided to be brave enough to show a little something of my own. I am a huge J. D. Hillberry fan and I have been drawing for almost 4 decades. This current project represents my first combining Graphite and Charcoal. Sorry about the poor quality photo. I would also like to thank everyone here. I have learned so much from all of you!

    Wishing you a gentle reality,

    Erik

Welcome to AP.. We are a JD fan club here

Nice work on this so far. You have definitely given it a lot of detail and character.

4 decades ! Wow, you are a true pencil artist! Would love to see more of your work and your future works as Work In Progress ( WIP ) here.

Also, hang out here, share and have fun.

Oh. My. Stars. this is beautiful! I thought it was a photograph at first. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of this and more of your artwork.

I wish the photo would show my hours of painstaking attention to detail. Meh! Oh well. This is on 11" x 14" Strathmore Medium. I am using, HB, 2H and 4B graphite and HB and 6B charcoal pencils. Blending is done with a stump. This is about 5 weeks of 6-8 hours a day, Monday thru Friday. Yeah. I do this at work. I know. You hate me now. I have my dream job. I get to sit and play all day and get paid for it. Nice!

I will post more in the near future. Right now, tri-tip B-B-Q time. Mmmmmm.

This photo is showing approximately twice life size of actual rendering. I promise to scale down my posts immediately. I didn't know it would post so huge. Oooops!

Ok Erik, when are the lessons going to start? I mean you breaking down what you are doing. This is just fabulous work. Thanks for joining and sharing this with us. Yeah, I like JD's work too.
So...what kind of job do you have that you can draw all day? You got to be self employed!?? Whatever, ENJOY and Bless you. IRma

I am the Chief Of Security for the California Dept. Of Transportation, District 1, in the redwoods of Humboldt County, Northern California. This means I sit at a desk all day as a highly paid, fancy "Walmart Greeter".

I posted some more work in my albums section. They are all Graphite on 11 x 14 Strathmore. The photo quality I was going for wasn't there. I am sooooo glad that I incorporated charcoal. I will never go back!
