    Default Enough Rope

Hi guys - this isn't really an animal (unless you can imagine that a seagull has just taken off and flown out of the picture frame ) but I thought I'd show you anyway.

    2H, H, HB, B, 2B graphite/mechanical pencil, blue Stadler Karat #37 pencil, 300gsm Fabriano Hot Press, 24 x 16cm, about 10 hours.

Actually Linda, I can imagine a seagull has just taken off and flew out of the picture As usual, this is great!

It looks just so very good. Why do so few people draw rope as it can be this pretty?

For some strange reason I'm waiting for something to appear behind the ropes, some exotic monkey (aren't they all exotic?) or bird.

Very nice rope, looks really rough!

BTW, Linda, have you ever thought about adding really black backgrounds? I think your style would suit nicely to black bgs, it would add some warm touch to your drawings IMHO. Just came up to my mind, I dont remember seeing any black pieces by you

Commented in the other forum but came back for another look.....made me think maybe I could do something with a fence post I photographed, have been trying to decide what bird I wanted to perch on it but now you have inspired me to maybe go without adding a feathered friend...love it Linda.

Thanks Vicki - go for it! I will be watching for a fence post from you soon!

Matti - black background? hmmm. I do tend to shy away from backgrounds a bit. I am slowly starting to introduce them more and more into my works. Black though? What sort of pencil would be best suited for such a deep black background do you think? I tend to only use graphite sort, but I have heard others round here talking about carbon pencils.

anyway, I did a little Photoshop on this one just to see how it would look with a black background. Interesting. If the work was planned at the start for such an effect it could be quite stunning. A future project for Linda.

Well I do pastel so a bit of rope seems fine to me.

    Stunning BTW.

Would black pencil do the trick?

Now THAT'S a rope! Incredible as always. That touch of blue is just the trick! You have a knack of finding interesting subjects where most of us (well...me anyway! ) wouldn't notice. Good job!

Love th epicture Linda, but don't like the black background at all. I used to work with black all the time in colour pencil (still do occasionally) and NEVER used graphite with it. I like your picture just as it is, the slight touch of colour is more than enough to make it stand out.

I have to agree with Gail. The background just detracts from the drawing and the detail. I love the way you just add that little splash of colour, it seems more appealing.
