Hey Colin. Bad hair day huh? I think it looks good, maybe just continue in the direction your going and just add more of the finer hair around the crown of her head. You know the little strands inbetween the spikes that are already there.

also, I would pull some more highlights on the left side of her hair (Her left) and some shadow to the top that will give it some added definition . Great hair!!

Thanks for the advice Marc I have tried to follow your instuctions i'm finding it hard to pull the highlights from her hair, i can stop touching them in again to add the detail i think it is looking better already , i'll keep at it , thanks again. BTW in your Artist view the detail is stunning the eye looks so wet have you used chacoal for the pupil ?

I agree with Marc. This is looking very nice! Just needs the darkest areas added. It appears from the photo that the mid top of her head is almost as dark as the coat, as well as the shadow areas under the strands.

The face is rendered beautifully!

Thank you

Hi Colin, you're coming along fantastic!
as far as the hair goes I'm struggling with that too
Marc has given some great advice there... there is one thing that I've spotted tho... the chin on the right hand side is slightly out.

keep at it!!

WOW! I think this is just great!

I would like to know how you get your portrait to look
so smooth? What kind of ground? (paper) Pencils?

Keep up the good work, I think your are almost there!

Man!!! what a tough hair style to draw! It's looking great!

Colin it's up to you how far you want to go. You could spend hours upon hours molding.

As far as the highlights go, if you want to "pop" them I use a pen eraser cut square and run the edge down the individual strands and pull the highlight that way. I've attached a pic to show the tool. this works great for me. Give it a rip!

BTW. I did use ritmo charcoal on my pupil. worked great!

Peace!

Yeah, that hairstyle must be hard to draw! You're doing good, though.
I noticed what Bella did, about the right side of the chin being the wrong shape (it rounds out more in the photo).

I drew similar hair on my very first portrait attempt, when I started drawing. Here is the link to the pic:

http://leo.cuckoos.net/gallery/portraits/digit_final

Here I used hb and 2b, and left the highlighted areas blank with great effort. Then I blended, lifted highlights with putty eraser, filles texture (following the strands direction) with 2b mechanical pencil.

You need to darken the strands that look dark in the pic, tho. it's looks good so far.

Marc thanks for the tip with the eraser , at first glance i assumed you had posted a bottle of hair conditioner until i realised it was the nib of a pencil or pen . i'll go back to work on it now ,
