..I love the fur on her outfit and have a question about your technique in this area. Did you apply graphite with a tissue and then cut in the white lines with an eraser?
J. D....
JD, not exactly. First I finished the shoulder on solid gray tone. Then I cut most of the lines with a sharp piece of eraser. I very quickly add some tones (HB, 2B) on the fur area and blend it light gray all over. Maybe some light hairs more with an eraser, blending a bit more etc. Added some negative drawing on the shoulder to make hairs "pop".
Making the fur took about 10minutes, very easy. There are some very small light details especially in her left shoulder that are not seen in jpeg.
I dont usually say this but I believe this piece looks way better in real, I am totally satisfied esp. with contrast and microdynamics, this really makes my earlier portraits look so bad (btw, that sucks)

Jay, you are doing great, so keep doing what you love. If you ve got a vision about a drawing, just make everything you can imagine to make it real. Quite simple, actually, eh? Theres no secrets, just you, paper, pencil and other tools. If theres no tool, invent it. It feels quite good when you know everythings going to be better, you know. It just cant be stopped
