When I started this piece, I began to work with the shadow and reflections on and around the glasses. It occurred to me that I could draw the victim, I mean subject, and then go back and draw in the glasses and shadows and so forth.

Hey Steve, I love this drawing already!! it's looking so cool! The glasses look great... I've yet to tackle glasses... ( I cringe at the thought). I'm looking forward to seeing more posts on this one

nice job so far steve,..you picked up on a lot of detail in his eyes that i dont think i could have found,..
OK I finally finished one with a background. My first ever completed portrait.
I thought I'd post it before it hit the shredder.

Don't you dare shred it!! I mean it! It's a great first ever complete portrait, fantastic really and you will really regret it if you get rid of it. Even if you think you don't like it now there is nothing better than comparing your next portrait and the ones after that to your first. Keep up this great work!
Actually I've had time to step back and look at it now. I like it, but I'm seeing tone problems and some inconsistancies. It'll help me do the next one better.
Thanks for the encouragment.

I agree, keep this one, I think the problem could be not enough variety of mid tones, you have very dark and light, some of your lighter tones could go up a notch or two.
