"Running horse"

So here's my first attempt at drawing on Bristol board - really different to the rough cartridge I'm used to. I love the smoothness of it! So the horse, although I traced the outline is an exercise in tone and shading. I keep playing with it - softening then sharpening, but cannot quite settle - any advice/opinions? (I think the scan has made it a tad sharper than the original). It's been a very relaxing Sunday doing this all day!

Have a great week everyone!

Becky.

I love it! This is an really excellent drawing. My only comment (and this may be a scanning issue) is that the darkest areas appear too abrupt and don't seem to be part of the horse. I am not talking about the nose, eyes or hooves, which I think are perfect. I would recommend softening the transition to the darker areas and/or lightening them a little so they integrate better with the rest of the horse.

Hey Bec! I think you've done a very nice job with this piece. I think it stand on it's own right now. But... If you want to keep going you can start to adding hair and highlight with pencil strokes and a sharp eraser.

Very well done. The Bristol definitely helped bring about that soft, velvety smooth texture of the horse.

Thank you

Very nice work. One thing that might add a little more "action" to the picture might be just a little dust or dirt being kicked up by the hoofs. I'm not sure how to capture that, and it looks good as it is. It might not be worth the risk of trying to do that. Just some thoughts.
