"advice needed on reincarnating this fish"

This is an image I did in charcaol from my imagination a little while back. I just can't figure out how to get my scans to represent the drawing well, but you can get the idea. At first, the drawing was just the fish, the weeds, and the fly. I thought there was too much empty space in the top of the composition, so I tried to add the "streaky" kind of light you might see underwater. That part actually looks worse on the drawing than the scan. That is the first image shown here, only I lightened it up when I scanned it. In reality, the fish is too dark (more like in the second image). I may try to improve the existing drawing by attempting to lighten the fish and moving the fly to the location shown in the second image, cropping off the old fly. If that doesn't work, I may try it again. Any advice or comments you might offer would be appreciated....

One thing I have to ask: Wheres the tail? If it bends behind the body, you should make some tonal movements on the middle/tail section. I also think there should be at least a little bit of tail seen from behind, so a viewer should not wonder where the fish has lost his tail. Though I bet its not well seen in the ref (?) , here it should be.

It would be also a good idea to add highlites on top, dont mind about streaky lights yet, first put some nice slick highlite on it to create 3D appearance. Btw, I like the head a lot.

If you look below his belly, you can see the tail peaks below the fish. It is more apparent in the original, but your point is well taken. Highlights on the top of the fish, and some work to better show the bending of the body are in order. Thanks for the advice.
