"Not my best"

This is my second dog I have ever drawn. It's terrible, I know, but thought I would post it anyway...

Any comments welcome.

Thank you

It's not as bad as you claim. I like the expression you caught on his face.

Great drawing dhesse... it's not terrible at all!!

Actually the only thing wrong with it is your opinion.... it's an excellent drawing!

It's a grumpy Yellow Labrador (so the breed is recognisable). It has character and depth in its eyes and the right tone for the colour involved. It's not a bitch, it's an anatomically correct dog and has a male dog's heavy body and face. It has form and substance. And above all it has a wonderfully studied and CORRECTLY drawn nose, which 90% of people who don't specialise in dogs get wrong 90% of the time.

So what more do you want from it........?

If you want me to pick fault with it I could mention the not-quite-perfect ears and paws but I'm not going to....

MIKE

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your feedback.

Mike, you make me laugh!!!

The ref. pic was completely washed out due to the flash from the camera so it was very difficult to see any details, especially the ears.

I admit it, I am my worst critic!

Thank you

I agree with everyone but you, Donna. GREAT dog! I'm glad you posted it so we could set you straight on it. I am not brave enough to try a dog yet. If my first attempt comes out HALF as good as this one I will be very surprised. Are there any other dogs lurking in your portfolio?

Bill

Thanks absolute and Bill. Gosh, I am starting to feel really guilty about my own self critique

No, it's not my dog. It was a commission. I want to start developing a personal style for drawing animals. Been so busy drawing people that I am very nervous and lack self efficacy when it comes to drawing animals.

I have a Border Collie...not quite brave enough to tackle that yet.

Thank you
