Hi Sharon, This drawing looks absolutely wonderful so far. It does definitely need some darker values though. You will be surprised at how much more realistic the darker tones will make your drawing look. I would start with the eyes. Take your time and do one eye at a time. Once you have the first eye finished to your satisfaction, you can use it as a reference for the other eye. When you are happy with the eyes, move on to the darker areas of the nose and mouth. Always remember to step back and look at your picture from a distance from time to time. It helps me to get up and walk away for a few minutes and then come back and look at it while standing back a few feet. You will be surprised at what you see! Once you have the primary features darkened, continue with the skin and hair . . . again, not getting in a hurry.

To me, adding the darker values is one of the easier and more fun parts of drawing because it can so quickly improve your drawing. Once you jump in, I don't think you will be hesitiant anymore.

And remember . . . you can always lighten it back up again.

I hope this helps.

Bill

I agree 100% with Bill. It's looking very monotone right now, shadow contrast is exactly what this drawing needs. Follow Bills advice you will see this wonderful drawing "Pop" of the sheet!
