"buffy"

This picture was done on 20 x 25 inch paper. This is the largest drawing I've done. Most of it was done in charcoal. Unfortunately most of the graphite has been reflected and only the charcoal is showing up especially in the hair. This is due to the flash of the digi camera. My fiance asked me to do the pic for him and he seems pleased with it , thats the main thing.

Hey Jenni. Nice tones in the face, the eyes look real nice. the hair looks a little unfinished to me... I'd like to see some more detail there. Also in the lips, little cracks and highlights would really "pop" them. The neck has a harsh line too. Don't mean to henpeck! It's a wonderful drawing!

You definitely got that buffy nose, and some nice tones for the skin, Marc picked up on the harsh line in the neck which was probably in the photo, if she's turning her head, but it still looks a little sharp. i think her head is a little round, you can tell it's her but there's something a little off, could be the photo tho, cos it's a great drawing.

Very nice work! The only thing I would add to the above comments is that the cheeks look a little flat. May be due to the flash of the digi cam but they look like they need more definition.

Well done!!

Thank you

marc I'm glad you henpecked, thats why I posted it in the first place. I know it sounds like I am making excuses but the things you mentioned are there. I have put cracks and highlights in the lips and definition in the cheeks etc. The problem is because the pic is so big all the graphite work has reflected. The skin tone that you can see on the face is brushed charcoal. I think when I'm working with a piece this big it needs to be done in charcoal only to really make it stand out. Mind you I think thats the last time I'm doing a piece that big. Also the paper was only project poster paper so it had a shine to it . That made it really hard to blend , especially charcoal. So where you see the harsh neckline, in the original it is charcoal blended down then graphite so it doesnt look as harsh.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
Jenni
