"Sweet sixteen... now with couple WIP´s"

Happy New Year to all, despite this very late Millennium Bug !
Heres my latest. Original is done on 8" x 11" 140g hot press watercolor paper, Derwent graphite pencils (H, F, HB, 3B) blended with chamois and blue tack. It took something around 25 hours in couple of weeks.
As allways, any comments and critiques are welcome.

Beautiful piece of work. You can see the time spent on detail.

The hair is fantastic.

The only critique I might have is the birch tree in the back. I'm not sure it was needed. No biggy though, it just seemed to draw my eye away from the great work in the foreground.

It doesn't get better than this!

Sorry I don't mean to stare!!

Beautiful work JL !

There is one thing that I notice that bothers me a bit. The hair next to the tree is out of focus compared to the tree that is in shape focus.

I agree with Marc, It doesn't get better than this! The hair in particular is awesome. I am continually amazed at the level of talent in this forum. The bar just got raised again with this portrait. The only critique I can make is the corner of her mouth seems to be a little too dark with respect to the rest of the portrait. Keep posting!

Thanks Marc, the birch is a sort of an finnish symbol of summer, so thats the reason why I draw it - refpic is from summer of´94.
Thanks Bob, I look what I can do to that part of hair, reference photo is very small and fuzzy.
Thanks Bill, I will bluetac mouth a bit.

Wow! This is fantastic! It glows! The only thing I see is the corner of her mouth, her left. Looks like it needs a little refining.

The hair and eyes are just amazing!!!

Thank you

Excellent work, I like the tree, but I would make it less defined, and the hair in front of the tree more defined. This was well worth your time and patience!!! Keep up the good work!

That's a lovely drawing! Really excellent job, though I agree with what some of the others said about the hair being sharper around the tree. Great job on the hair and everything else, though!

Thanks, itoy.
Thanks, D.L., in refpic there is some shadow in her left mouthcorner, but I tryed to refine it a bit.
Thanks, Zmick.
Thanks, vickie.
Thanks, Melissa.
Okey, here it is after touch-up, which mostly shows in her hair but I fiddlered around other places too. Unfortunately scanning is one of many arts which I master very poorly, in original drawing she doesn´t seem so sooty as in this scan and finer tones just seem to disappear in here.
Thanks to all for help!

JL
