"Member's Self Portraits"

Hello everyone,

One of our newest members, verdaccio, suggested we post some self portraits. I think this is a great idea. Since many of us are busy with commissions, these can be older self portraits also. You are certainly welcome to post them here but I have started a thread in the "Members Portfolios" called "Member's Self Portraits" to keep them in so they don't get buried too quickly in the this forum.
Please click go to:

http://www.artpapa.com/forum/DCForumID16/30.html
and hit "reply" to add you self portrait.

Phil, your jpeg didn't turn out so please repost both here and in the members portfolios section.

Steve, Your self portrait looks great, but I'd like to see a larger version of it or a close-up. Is that possible?

As I said, feel free to put post them in this forum, also but lets put them over there as well to keep them around a while.

"After The Critic"
Charcoal and Graphite
24" x 20"
This entire image was drawn, including all the tape, torn paper, and background mat board. It is self-portrait that depicts what an artist has to do after a critic “rips them apart”. Artists are usually sensitive people to begin with, so I find it interesting that many people feel it is perfectly acceptable to tell an artist that their work is terrible.

This is my "OTHER" self portrait. As you can see my blending, and attention to detail has improved and changed quite a bit......

This was the first time I had ever done a self portrait and the first time I had ever use Bristol Board.
The board took some getting used to, it has a lot less tooth and works differently than the stock I normally use. But once I become more used to it, I quite liked it, although a cross between Bristol and hot press watercolour would be ideal, whatever that may be.

As for the portrait, it's still only only half done and seems to have turned tun into permanent WIP, (I guess we all have a few of those kicking about). There is supposedly, eventually, more to be put in the right hand side (the bit you cant see) but I'm not too sure what yet, if ever

For those of you a bit nervous about doing a self protrait, it really was not as difficult as I at first imagined. Once I started drawing I separated myself from it and it just became "another" portrait. Then again, the subject matter was superb and with so very few, if any, flaws to consider it always was going to be the ideal subject
