Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I have really struggled with this piece. It is going to be very hard to part with I'm afraid.verdaccio - You are right about the neck. The scan cuts it off, but the actual drawing includes her neck and some of the shirt.
Toby, I'm using a lower grade smooth Bristol (I know I should be using something better - I've got some Strathmore 500 plate to try out for my next drawing).
This drawing is all graphite. I use drafting pencils (lead holders) with Berol Turquoise lead. I used 2B, HB, F, H, and 2H leads. I like the drafting pencils because of their "feel" in my hand, and it's easy to quickly get a needle sharp point using a lead pointer.
For blending I am using a chamois, stumps, and tortillions. This is my first time using a chamois, and I am sold on it.
I also use two types of kneaded rubber, both by Faber Castell. The "DESIGN" type is the standard gray stuff that is not too sticky. The "KNETGUMMI" type comes in several colors and is softer and MUCH stickier than the gray. I found it at the local art store and tried it out - the stuff is fantastic. I don't know how it compares to BLU-TACK because I haven't ordered any from Mike yet, but I will soon.
My magnifying glass also comes in real handy.
Bill
