This is a drawing I'm going to give a good friend of mine for Christmas. How many days until Christmas? This is my first WIP posted here, and I'd love to hear some pointers and opinions. I really haven't put much thought into the background. A part of me thinks I should just leave it blank. I still have a little time before I have to make a decision. This is an awesome website, and I feel privilaged to see your work and share mine. The talent among you is incredible! Thank you and God bless!

Brian, This is going to be an awesome drawing! You have really nailed the textures. I can't wait to see the finished product. Good luck getting it finished by Christmas. I am working on a portrait that needs to be done by Christmas as well. I'm not sure I'm going to make it.
Anyway, welcome to the forum. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your work.

sweet man. i think its awesome. background might work well white, since its obviously a bright sunny day, and you can keep your edes lost. it will also keep you on your timetable better, which as much as i hate to say it is a factor that should always be considered. if it isnt finished by xmas, you might lose interest in it. ithink you can definitely finish it by xmas, no background.

Welcome to the board buddy. As I see your drawing, it's doing great right now, I like the way you handle the bullcap. I'll wait for the final result. Keep it up and God bless.

This one is awesome too!....what you have done so far looks good enough to be a finished drawing...so i cant wait to see all of it....just curious...do you like to blend ..or no blending?....
Christmas is 4 days away. Oh well, who needs sleep anyways? I'm a real stickler for detail, the more the better. I actually do like to blend because it "loosens" the piece and actually saves me a little bit on time. I use small blending stumps and tortillons . I'll even make my own tortillons which are very small with an extremely pointed tip. Thank you all for your kind comments, and I'll post the finished picture shortly!

This is coming out great. I feel like I'm standing right next to him. I have to laugh. My scans of my Pic comes out so tiny, & here your able to show a large WIP of your drawing. What's your secret?
