"just found the site, and wow! plus one of my fish..."

Well, I just found this site and it has my mind buzzing (well, more buzz than normal anyway). Some very gifted people here.

I guess I should introduce myself. I have always enjoyed drawing, but never thought much of it. Last year I gave my parents a charcoal drawing of their barn/farm in Pennsylvania. When I was having it framed, the guy at the shop said he really liked my work an would be interested in buying/reselling some prints if I did some of the local attractions. Since then, I started dabbling in oil painting, because I figured that would be more "wanted". I didn't think that charcoal "drawings" were well sought after. This place and its "inhabitants" has renewed my hope in that medium, which is my favorite. So thank you for that.

I am attaching a drawing I did of a bass (I love to fly fish). While I have worked in graphite before, I find that I enjoy working in strictly charcoal much more. Not my best, not a high res scan, but the only one I have on this computer.........so far......

That's an excellent drawing! If that's not your best I'm wondering what your best drawings looks like

...!

And, as I don't work in charcoal, I'd appreciate and understand your work even more if you would let us know what size it is.

Thanks for the kind words.

That one is bigger than 8.5 X 11 and smaller than 10 X 16 (although fish do grow in my imagination). Unfortunately, I was experimenting with a heavily textured paper. If you look at the nose area, you can see some horizontal lines caused by the texture. They are actually more apparent through the whole sketch on the original than they appear on the scan. Live and learn...

I'm with Mike, Eye. If this is not your best work I can't wait to see something you consider better. That is one great bass! It looks delicious (where's my scaler?).

You charcoal people are really getting me interested. I haven't yet summoned the courage to give charcoal an honest try. So far I have only played with it. Work like yours really motivates me to see what I can do with it. You have a great talent. I am looking forward to seeing more of your work. Welcome to the forum.

beautiful fish. nice compostiion. you use charcoal pencil or vine? what kind of paper is this on?

I've been using General's charcoal pencils. I've started using the compressed "crayons" some. That paper is Srathmore Charcoal 300 series. As I said above, a little too much texture for my liking. I guess that's why I'm not 100% happy with this one.
