"wolf in progress..older woodburning of elephant"

i didnt really want to start a new string for this one,,,but here is an older woodburning i done of an elephant.around or 2000 or 2001..i took it to a craft show one time and its one of the many that never sold, so i was
a little afraid to post it,...but if i do an elephant later on in graphite and charcoal..then hopefully i can see improvement.
woodburning seems very limited compared to graphite charcoal...at least on certain kinds of wood.
if anyone ever decides to give woodburning a spin.remember one thing...----.once while i was in a bar a woman showed me a photo of one of her kids ..just a wallet...she was very proud of the picture...so not even thinking i told her that i would burn it for free if she wanted....that didnt go over very well...she got very quiet and told the bar tender i was starting sh*t with her......not many people know what woodburning is

Excellent! This drawing has a very nice feel to it. How detailed is the fur going to be? Is this Charcoal and graphite?

No problem with the scanning. I've got a bunch of tips. I added another one in bellas post if you care to gander.

Really great so far, you have the eyes down pat, beautiful and glowing, and the hair will look great, well it already does, but with the whole thing...even better. But then again this doesn't surprise me

hey thanks Marc/.Jess
i didnt start with charcoal on this one so i decided to just keep using 8b for the dark stuff,..its on strathmore drawing 400 series..on the side with less tooth,...at 1st i tried to just religiously follw the detail in the hair..but it was looking hollow,..so i just started following the direction of the hair and built it up in the parts that have more mass,...then i startted with a tortillion made out of newsprint..and started swiping over the pencil lines...it blends them pretty nice
i have to admit this paper is making a huge difference,..ive tried the same thing sort of on computer paper and it doesnt work out so good...this paper erases really easy i like it it a lot.

Great work Jim! I continue to be amazed at the scope of your talent . . . and your speed! This wolf is some of your best work. It seems to be begging to be burned into wood . . .

I haven't been posting much lately (too busy), but I have been keeping an eye on things. I hope to get a chance to work on my portrait in the next couple of days and hopefully post an update.

Abso, it seems to be that your drawing style somehow suits furry animals. The texture on the fur is awesome.

Suggestions: his right ear (our left) needs little refinement. A few randomly choosen detailed hairs on the fur would add some contrast. In my opinion this one of your best works yet though I remember your said earlier your want to draw only elephants etc.
