Hi vicklyn, you asked me about making hair under another topic. I dont have any hair wips now but I put here a close-up. Just draw what you REALLY see, put tones on where they belong to. This close-up is from "A girl". Another different hairtype close-up is seen on my website (hair of gwbush). Hope this helps you with you drawing

i think you have a nice likeless and have rendered the values very well. one thing is that the distance from the inside corner of the eye to the underside of the nose is a bit long. usually, it is one eye length. this error was made in the block in, which i usually do in very soft charcoal so i can mess with it and rub it out easily, simultaneously addding a tone to the eyesockets, cheecks, and form shadow on the nose.

i wouldnt change it at this stage, since its such a nice drawing. but keep that proportion in mind for future portraits.

good luck

   Hi Vicklyn!

I studied your drawing for a few minutes, and I really like what you've done. The blending you did on her face is very good. I would study the nose a little closer. You need a little more shading from the bridge of the nose on down. It will give it more demension.
My second point would be her hair. I also believe that next to the eyes, a portrait's hair can make it or break it. Your reference photo doesn't show a lot of detail and the dark background doesn't help. This is where you really need to bring out your creative side. You've got a good start here. Keep working it until the dark tones come out, and keep you pencil sharp!
Thank you for sharing!

Hi Vicklyn,
I love the eyes!

Very very nice vick.....like rush said....with some photos there isnt much you can do with them,as fas as the hair the hair in in the photo is pretty general cause its so far away,..you captured the likeness and everything
...hair that far away is something im trying to learn about too,...mabye just adding a few light strands or something to make it look more natural then the photo ......cause as a drawing of someone that far away it looks perfect...but if you take a small photo of someone and make a huge 8x 10 of just the head and shoulders it doesnt work out as good as one that you can see all of the detail in from a close up photo.
Keep on posting i really like your work.

NO WAY! That is part of this girls picture, a smile of pure joy! When you've got a great exhuberant smile use it!
