Thanks JT and Jim,To answer your questions, Firstly JT
Bristol and Arches both have their own unique quality, Arches is softer and grabs the graphite etc a lot more whereas bristol board sort of slides the graphite around so you have to keep that in mind. The first time I used it it blew my mind because I couldnt control the toning but you eventually get used to it. Back somewhere in the archive is a post entitled Self Portrait (first time I used Bristol) where JD and I discuss this.
Personally, and this is waht it boils down to, personal preference, I would use Arches things that need a softer feel to them and bristol for things that need to be sharper and have harder edge.
I wish I could explain better, but I feel certain subjects lend themselves to certain papers and techniques. This particular drawing would have looked completly different on Arches because of the paper and the way I, personally, would have used it.

That is such a big compliment recognising they where Derwent pencils. I have actually been waiting for someone to ask why I put I spliff in the drawing.......lol (its actually a home made tortillion for the uninitiated)
When it comes to drawing you are light years ahead of me in many respects (hair particularly) so dont scrap anything.
Oh I forgot to add, I am thinking of redoing my web site now I have a logo.
