I would like some comments....this portrait was done on cold press watercolor paper. I'm still trying to figure out the scanning process.... but please tell me what you think:)

Fantastic!! I can't believe that this is your first portrait. Did you use graphite or charcoal? What paper did you use?

Thanks Toby

I used cold press watercolor paper with this portrait...and graphite pencils.

I have to play with my NEW!! scanner....to see how I can post better pics....I've only had it for 1hr!! ...lol...I'm just buzzing with joy!!

I can't help it ...I have to say it again.....Thanks JD!! Your book has helped me so much....man!.. I have a long way to go to even come close to what your portraits look like....

absolute...... thanks for motivating me to use a graph it's helped me with my prespectives alot!

Your picture is wonderful Bella! The watercolor paper really adds a wonderful texture to the drawing. I am afraid of watercolor paper (especially cold press) because it doesn't seem like it would be very forgiving. You are indeed very talented.

Your scan appears to be very good to me. I typically scan my drawings at 300 dpi and save as a grayscale tiff file. This usually results in a big file, but I'd rather have too much information than not enough. I always save my original scan as a tiff because there are no compression losses associated with this file format. To post on the forum I resample the image at 72 dpi and set the width to 400-500 pixels and save as a jpeg with quality settings as appropriate to get a reasonable file size. A computer screen is fixed at 72 dpi, so any higher resolution only contributes to the file size and actually hurts the clarity of the displayed image. I hope this is helpful.

Bill, I wish you could come over to show me in person how "to scan things". I tried to show a larger jpg PIC of Gigi, but I got a message telling me there was an error. I'm just glad that I'm not the only one that has trouble scanning PICS. Bella, your scan looks great to me.

Hey Bill thanks for the info.....here is another one..

any comments would be greatly appreciated

I put in a close up of the eye because I don't think I'm drawing them very well.
