"The Baby"

And here is one I've posted before, but the shading was non-existant on the face. I'll post both the scan and the digi pic so hopefully that can give the best idea I am capable of right now.

Honest comments are very welcome....looking to really start improving on my work since I'll be doing a lot of it in the next few months while I wait for my own little one of these to arrive!

Beth, I think the scanning still washed out a little bit some of your shading...but the drawing did really look great. Great job.

God bless,

itoy

Beth,
Looks GREAT! I have the same trouble with getting the scan/photo to resemble the actual drawing. Yours looks very nice.

I love this picture, Beth. The expression is priceless. I have not been brave enough so far to try a baby.

It does appear that the values in the eyes are not consistent with the rest of the drawing, and therefore they seem to call a little too much attention to themselves. This may be a scanning inconsistency, but as displayed, you may want to consider either lightening the eyes, or deepening the values in other selected areas (e.g. shadows in ears, neckline, hair, shadows in lower part of drawing). After doing this, you may want to adjust some of the mid-range values as well to achieve an overall balance of tone in the drawing.

And congratulations on your "other" baby!

Bill

Bill...I see what you mean with the picture as it appears...I went and looked at the original again to see if its that way on there and its not. I do think I need to darken a few values, but for example in reality the shadows in the ears are just about as dark as the eyes, same with the nostrils. The hair scares me because the baby doesn't have a whole lot of it, hair is something I really need practice on. I am going to do a little touch up by your suggestion though, thanks!

And thank you everyone for your comments and congratulations. I'm hoping to be a lot more active in here from now on! I am going to go through my family photos looking for funny and outrageous expressions on the kids...I think it would be good practice to try and capture them. (and maybe fun too!)
