"DONE! Yee Haaa!"

I finished with a total of 12 hours into this. My husband (first time ever) just keeps saying "Wow".
I can't tell you all how I feel, giddey I guess. I have watched so many of you who easily (it seems) produce portrait after portrait of excellent work. I have felt the last few months that something is wrong with me. I watch people improve yet havn't seen improvement coming my way.
I now SEE that improvement. It is amazing how a few little tips and grasping them can make your ability jump leaps and bounds. I am posting the full drawing and a close up. If you see anything wrong let me know (I'm flying high but still am willing to take critisism)

Yep, steph, this is a great drawing, I think its your best so far! Maybe the eyes still need just a bit more 3d appearance? Anyway, improvements are obvious. Keep up the good work.

I said once and I'll say it again, WOW! What a huge improvement!! HUGE!!
What was the lightbulb for you? What technique did it?

I know exactly how you feel. My lou Gehrig drawing was my lightbulb, that was the first time I combined graphite an dcharcoal together. I was giddy also! Great feeling Huh?

your officially over the fence!

LOL bill ....Stephanie ive been watching this one i knew it would come out great.
..i understand what you are saying also about improving,....sometimes i felt like iwas getting worse instead of better before i came here.,..but i think its all just because i dont take my time the way i should sometimes.
i think the most important thing ive learned so far is about how long it takes people to do some of the things they work on.
i remember when chris burns showed up just for a few days and said his work takes a month
i was thinking...a month?.....what does he draw them with a needle?...but a few things are making more and more sense as i go along,..also the photo you are working from is extremely important,..thats why i hate commisions...its almost a sure thing that the photo they offer will stink.
now if i can just learn how to make a good clear scan.
but anyhow..ill cut this book short and see what else is new here today
Take care

OK this may sound dumb but it was the way to blend (like it takes a brain surgeon to figure it out) going WITH the direction of the skin etc. AND not always using a 6B to get darker. I used an HB for 95% of the drawing. Layers, layers, layers! I then went in with my Conte Noire for the shadow, pupil of the eyes and some of the iris. I feel like an idiot even posting that but hey, it was my brick wall I kept running into. I think I flew over it last night.
Also not trying to rush, rush, rush. I spent a good 8 hours on the face alone. Thank you all so much for your help! I'm now ready to hit some more art shows... now for that slide printer!

I will enter this into the picture draw competition. This will be possibly my last entry. They/he doesn't seem to like my work. This will be my fourth time sending something. Not that I'm bitter but lordy have you guys seen some of the winners???? Yikes! Not my taste. Wish me luck.
