"Epiphany"

Epiphany stated in Webster's dictionary as the experience of suddenly understanding or becoming aware of something that is very important to you.

I was playing around with this portrait, toning and blending when it dawned on me that the my lines around the face were just jumping out at me. So I erased them, did a little shading and some blending with a tissue (the toilet kind) and what a difference.
YES!!! I know that's what you've been saying but I'm slow and old and sometimes it just doesn't sink in.

Now! this is done totally in HB. I am intending to darken it up some, not much. Any thoughts?

Steve

wow steve..that has a really cool look to it,i know what you mean about the lines...im use to being able to use them as much as i want cause i could always erase them out when i was done burning something in wood...so i still want to make them.....its pretty challenging finding new ways to create shapes without using lines.
it sure did make a big difference in this drawing.

Looking good Steve.

One thing I have found over the years of drawing and painting is that you don't want hard lines in general (unless they are really necessary) and outlines never help a picture.

Sometimes I will draw something and then actually erase the entire area leaving just the ghost image and then go over it and tweek it. This give me a tonal guide without the lines.

Glad you found this.

The picture is looking real good.

Bob
