It's a new drawing, i've been perfecting forever. I swear it's taunting me some days in those hours i sweat into it, or maybe i'm just crazy. does it look finished? or does it need more?

SG, this piece came along very well. About the question wether your drawing looks done, it depends on the final result that you wanted. Some drawings are half finished but it is actually done and that's what gave those drawings their essence. I believe that the drawing is the final result of the artist satisfaction upon his artwork. Some people would say it's perfect some would say needs alot more improvement, but it boils down to the eyes of the artist. Take care.

God bless,

itoy

That's a really cute portrait! .... do you have a reference photo you can post?

i don't really have one reference photo, it was my imagination piecing together several dif pictures. As for it being finished, i'm not sure yet, in my opinion i think i could add more but i don't want that "over worked" look. sometimes just sitting it out for a few days or weeks and observing it or whatever as i go about my day helps me decide. another thing that bothers me is so many of my scanned drawings have a "blurry" look. this one isn't as bad how do i fix that?

Your portrait has a very nice feel to it smashing glass....and I think it's cool that you are doing it from your imagination!.....I haven't even ventured down that road yet

This is wonderful. You have a great imagination. The only thing that I might change is to add a few more highlights to the hair that lying against the back, to provide more contrast. Did you use graphite, charcoal? Paper?

Hi,

I like those rich velvet tones you have going there in the dress.

The rest looks very finished to me.

I haven't been around this board long but from the posts i've seen, you all seem to be so talented. The skills and knowledge you have are amazing. I'm 19, just got out of high school and i have had this passion for art all my life, and it continues to grow. I am half owner of a business called Timeless Treasures Photography, i do Photopainting and retouching for the photographer, plus oil painting on the side. ( i have a long ways to go before i can begin to sell my oil paintings.) I would like to go to college to get my Bachelor of Fine Arts, but i'm wondering if i really need it. I'd love to be able to support myself on art, and i know it'll take time to build things up. But my question for all of you who paint and or draw is.. have you had any formal training? is it more of a hobby? Do you think four or more years of college is worth it? because i know i may fail miserably,I guess i'm just looking for some thoughts on all this, or what you've done to fulfill your dream. anyway, thanks.

Welcome Artpapa, S.G. I dont know whats up over there but here in Finland ALL artschools suck. I cant figure out where are all those people graduating from colleges every year since there are no skillful art professionals around here (at least I dont know any). I guess they are all into www-stuff or they are just making screensavers and games for Nokia...

I would take a look at the art programs that the colleges offer. If you have a passion for your work then it won't feel like work. You already have a job, right? So that means that you can find work somewhere.
