"DARN Commissions!!"

Geeze just when you think your done!
Well, my equine client has decided that the nose should be longer. This I may add is after me asking if I nailed the face and then spraying it with fixative after a big yes, makes me cry, etc. Also in the photograph she sent the mane is on the off side (not shown) she writes me and says she realized that his mane is not showing in this photo and can I fix that. I was almost done with the drawing but said "sure I can add some whisp's like they were flowing". I get that all done and send her what I think is the finished drawing. NOW this morning she TELLS ME that he doesn't have a black mane that it is gray, burgundy and black and can I fix that. Like I'm sapposed to have xray vision and see through the horse in the magic photo. Anyway, I used a type writer eraser (very abrasive) and pulled out some black in the mane and then went over it with a white charcoal pencil. This is touch up three after her saying all is wonderful. I only DO two touch ups so I'm done. Here is the new completed work.

PS
Sometimes with a commission/client I want to go in the closet and bang my head against the wall. PLUS I gave her $50 off because I had known her online about 5 years ago. OK I'm done bitchin' about this. Going out to work horses!

OK I'm back from some head banging... here is the last e-mail to arrive in the last 30 minutes

**Yes, now a little in the forelock...and we'll be home free.**

Just if anyone is curious here is the reference photo I was sent. It is 3.5 x 5" and he is about 1.5x2" in the photo.

I've never tried to satisfy anyone but me. I'm sure being frustrated with that type of pressure is tough. But I love your art, you make the horses seem so majestic. Keep the faith, kill the messenger.

Steve,
Thank you for the compliment. I try not to do too many commissions because a lot of the time it is a big headache BUT with the Holidays coming up I really can use the extra money. Luckily I really get a kick out of drawing horse's and most of the time I never have any adjustments to do. This is the first time in the last year. The only reason it bothers me is because two days ago the piece was perfect and now she is finding things she would like changed or added. Can't draw what you don't see (c:

Great work, Stephanie! It is hard to see from that small photo, and it wasn't nice of the person to suddenly want you to change after saying it was perfect. You do make horses look majestic (which they often are in real life), and I hope your client will be satisfied now! (They should be.)
