"Nice to be back!"

Hi guys, it's nice to be back from a long vacation. I got rid of my old computer for it got hit by a virus and it just mess everything up in there. While I'm having my shesta(splg?) from the forum I've been busy doing commission portraits and drawings. Right now I have 7 standby commission portraits after this but I always tell my clients that I work according to my pace for I don't have the patience to sit a long time to draw and sometime I had the attitude to not draw for almost a week if I don't like to. I guess this is my weak side as an artist. I admire alot of you who can sit and focus your attention in what you do. I have seen Jim work on a piece and finished his subject in a day or two. This picture took me to do like 12hrs in a span of 2 weeks. Take care and God Bless.

Hi Itoy, I'm glad to see that you are back. Did you use the pencil point technique again for this PIC? What pencils & paper did you use. You did a fantastic job. Toby

HEY WB itoy....nice work as always,...is this black pastel and brush? i tried brushing a while back and it was not as easy as i thought it was going to be..i tried using charcoal instead of pastel
.....i finally decided after all of that to go with graphite dust and pencil...and use charcoal in solid form just on a few things.
i think i might need some better erasers too,i couldnt get all of the charcoal out sometimes when i tried to cut in edges.
was just wondering if pastel lifts out easier in powder form?

Toby, sorry for the long response. I used Derwent Graphic Designer pencils on this one HB, 4B, 2B, F and done on Strathmore Sketch 14x17. This is my first time to use tortillon for blending. I'm trying to as much as possible know the techniques in drawing Charcoal/Graphite/Pencils so I can better understand an artwork when I see a drawing and the method it's been done. Thanks for the feed back.

God bless,

itoy

Thanks Itoy. I love the hair. You did a great job!!! I just noticed that you didn't put a darker tone between the upper & lower lips. Otherwise, it's terrific.
