"little ben"

well ive looked at this drawing upside down, sideways,in the mirror...and i guess im ready to post it,..i started doing some new stuff like brushing with charcoal dust with tiny brushes,....this is part pencil with blending with tissue...part graphite dust.....but no charcoal dust.....i think everyone should try it at least once just to see what ya think,
sometimes i get a little carried away with the kneaded eraser,i started dragging out stuff in his shirt that i shouldnt have, but its fun to play with.,
,sort of like picking a scab..i couldnt stop myself.
the only place i used charcoal was in his eyes..the hair is 8b,but i cant really tell any difference in the scan..but in the drawing it stands out a little better.
from knowing what me and my 4 brothers looked like in other pictures as kids i think my drawing looks a lot like all of us,but not exactly like any of us,..including ben,..but i still had fun drawing it.
btw..this is crayola watercolor paper,..with a very smooth surface....so i might have to take back all the bad things i said about bristol smooth,...it might work even better for brushing.

Looks really good, absolute! I know what you mean about looking like you and your brothers but not a lot like any of you--I felt the same way about my self-portrait (it looked similar to me and my 2 sisters but not a lot like any of us, though more like me than them). Anyway, this looks quite a lot like Ben, and the shading and hair look good! Keep it up!

Hey thanks melissa....the more i look at this drawing the more i think it looks like my little brother..when he was that age...i cant remember my oldest brother when he was this age cause i dont think i was born yet...but it really is kind of strange....i never thought much when people told me and all my brothers look alike....i think ill look for one of me at his age or close and draw it...then mabye ill have a closer likeness to ben

ok...now notice the stylish cloths this guy has on ..... i cant help it disco was cool at the time so my mom must have been thinking a silk shirt was the best thing for a school picture,...i might have to change this to b@w and use both to draw from...the other one started as a true b@w....so i might have more trouble with this one

Hi Jim, it's been a while that I posted some response to the board due to my computer problem. Thank God, he provided me a new one last Thanks Giving Day. Finally you played w/ my favorite instrument "brush". I'ts fun using it and when you'll get used to it, it's gonna give you a smooth texture in your drawing. I have posted my new subject the other day, it's my first time to use tortillon in blending and I like it also. Good luck and keep on doing the brush it's one of the best instrument out there.

God bless,

itoy
