"Skin"

Hi All,
I have a question about rendering skin, I have read JD's book and a few other's and have tried to emulate the technique, but all I end up with is a muddy face with no real depth just blotches. I have used 2b to 6b and stumps chamois, and tortillions but to no joy. Can anyone give me any pointers.

Thanks in advance
Glenn

Hey Glenn. Without actually watching you technique it's hard to determine how your getting that blotchy result.

I've used very little 2B pencil on skin and never anything over 2B, so I don't know if that may be the cause. I usually use F, HB, B and sometimes 2B blended with a Chamois for females children and babies.

I usually use HB ritmo charcoal for males, blended with felt. This is my basic formula that I use with some adjustment. When I blend I always work in the direction the skin rolls.

I very rarely use tortillions, only in real tight areas. Maybe these little dude's may be causing your problem, it's tough to get a nice even tone over a large area with them.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that Marc,

I will give it a go and see what results I can get.
