"Collage"

Hi to All,
I am about to take on a drawing 11x14. It is a collage of my four kids. (I will post the preliminary sketch tonight). This is a sketch of one of the boys. It's taken from a blurry photo but my wife loves it.

The shadows are throwing me and I just can't get happy here. What would your advice be... us it or get another photo shot.

I read the post about being true to the photos or adjusting them as you see best. Trouble is I'm not sure I'm ready to try that. Advice please????

Steve

I'd be as stuck as you...I guess with this photo you would have to adjust it slightly to get a realistic impression of your son due to the blurriness of the photo. I doubt I could do that either, but if the photo is a really good representation of your son it's hard to dismiss drawing it. If you don't feel your ready for adjustments, maybe it would be easier to choose a clearer source... i wish you good luck in this endeavour...

Hi Steve,

I guess if your wife is determined you ARE going to use this photo I suppose you are going to have to do the best with it you can.

I was intrigued to see what could be done with it, so I copied it (hope you dont mind.)

It is still very rough, I only took 10 minutes over it, plus the resolution is pretty low to be able to post here. But if you persist, convert to grey scale to sharpen it a bit, use the sharpen facility to tweek it a bit more, and mess about with the tone curve etc, a half useable image can be achieved. Oh, I removed the background cluter because I think that was a bit distracting also.
