"Sanding Station"

Here is a little project I did today and wanted to share it with all you graphite artists.

Got the idea after seeing the 'paper' dust catcher in JD's book.

This is a neat and non-messy way to collect/store graphite & charcoal powder! Nice idea

How did you do this? Did you buy something that had 3 cutouts or did you design & build the whole thing? Toby

Just made it up from some wood scraps I had in the shop Toby.

I started with the idea and that is what resulted. I probably would make it different if I were to make it again. Now that I have something to look at it would be easier to refine the design.

What a great idea

Wow Bob! That looks great. I wish I was that organized. Have you been using the powder yet on any of your drawings?

Not yet JD, just really starting to get into this type of drawing.

The 'station' is more than just a dust collector, it really helps in being organized. When doing some sample charts, I found that I would have to stop and find the sanding pad, pick it up, sharpen, tap off the dust into the waste can, put the block back down and then continue a few more strokes on the chart. With the 'station', I just reach over sharpen and back to the chart or drawing.

The blobs in front of the baby food jars are old kneaded erasers that I clean of the point with.

So far, I really like the little station. I could probably design it to be easier to make as this got sort of convoluted since it was done on the fly.
