Thanks JD - I appreciate the kind words. This one took me about 2 weeks, working a couple of hours a day. I get distracted easily, so it probably would've been finished earlier otherwise! I can't sit for more than a couple of hours at a time, or I'll get either bored, distracted or unfocused.
As far as the freckles go, I just rendered them with the point of the pencil, lightly. Again, I don't blend like most of you guys do - I just render everything with the pencil, and, I only use the one pencil. The Ebony Black gives me all the tonal ranges I need, depending on the pressure I use.
I had to forget I was drawing a hat, with all those reflections. I found if I just concentrated on copying what I was looking at, one area at a time, it was much easier. For me, I don't think it's a question of "how do you draw leather?" or "how do you draw this or that surface" - I just work in darks and lights. The surface will look like it's supposed to if you get that right.
I'm not sure what I'm going to work on next - hopefully another commission! Right now I'm trying to find some sort of "agent" or whatever to help get my name out. It's hard getting your own name out. Any advice in that regard would be greatly appreciated.
Again, thanks for the kind words.
