Very Nice Robert. Great job on the leather. The Jacket and the hat provide a nice contrast in value and texture to the face. The freckles are excellent. I know they can be difficult. Sometimes they can appear to be just spots on the paper. I have foud that rendering them directly with a graphite loaded tortillion or blender is the easiest way. Is that how you did it? How many hours would you say you have in this? I'm looking forward to you next one.

Thanks JD - I appreciate the kind words.

This one took me about 2 weeks, working a couple of hours a day. I get distracted easily, so it probably would've been finished earlier otherwise! I can't sit for more than a couple of hours at a time, or I'll get either bored, distracted or unfocused.

As far as the freckles go, I just rendered them with the point of the pencil, lightly. Again, I don't blend like most of you guys do - I just render everything with the pencil, and, I only use the one pencil. The Ebony Black gives me all the tonal ranges I need, depending on the pressure I use.

I had to forget I was drawing a hat, with all those reflections. I found if I just concentrated on copying what I was looking at, one area at a time, it was much easier. For me, I don't think it's a question of "how do you draw leather?" or "how do you draw this or that surface" - I just work in darks and lights. The surface will look like it's supposed to if you get that right.

I'm not sure what I'm going to work on next - hopefully another commission! Right now I'm trying to find some sort of "agent" or whatever to help get my name out. It's hard getting your own name out. Any advice in that regard would be greatly appreciated.

Again, thanks for the kind words.

Hey Robert.

This is excellent, you certainly have a talent for creating beautiful blends with your pencil tip. Please tell me you at least use a kneaded eraser for the highlight areas. I wish you luck with an agent, I'm in the process of doing the same, I just need a few more portfolio pieces, Thanfully the art community in Boston is huge!

Great Job!

Awesome as always.
...i dont know the 1st thing about agents...but at boris vallejos site under his frequent asked questions,...his answer to that was to send your work to art directors that deal in subjects that you like to do,..in your case ...people and pets....surely there must be a sight out their some place for art directors.

So you don't do any blending?? How did you get the leather to look like that? You did a great job on this one (even though it's gay..)

That is really great! The leather looks perfect, and the face and hair are great, too! You think YOU are easily distracted after an hour or two?? I get distracted after a few minutes, usually! lol It's sad, really, but kind of funny. I have six older siblings at the house, and I get distracted by TV, computer, chores, piano, writing, talking, etc. I guess I wasn't born to be an artist, because I have lots of other things I'd rather be doing, usually.
Anyway, great job with this drawing!
