"My daughter"

I am sorry that I do not have the ref picture, we are in the middle of a PCS and I don't have any files with me. This is one I drew of my daughter, it's not really finished but close. As you can see I have a lot to learn!

I think it is looking good. Are the highlights white, or is there some shading on them. I read somewhere then even a thin light shading on the highlights can improve the overall picture.

But I think it is great, anywhere. I suppose it all depends on what you are trying to achieve, i.e Photo realistic or artistic impression.

Keep up the work
Glenn

Thanks Glenn! The highlights are just shading, the original is alot darker than this scanned version but it could definetly use darker shadow. I am not very familiar with what type of pencil should be used for certain features, I did this with just a mechanical pencil (HB) and a blending stick (eeeeeck). I need to learn more about different types of pencils and such.

Thanks again!
Christine

You definitely have a good start Christine.. I do think you should bring out the shadows more with a darker pencil which will make your picture jump a bit more. Also, try to keep your tones a bit more balanced.. I noticed that the left eye seems a bit darker than the right.. I usually pick a tone value on the face and work off of that.. for example, try finding the tones that match and adjust your light and dark tones to that. Shadows will also help in making your picture not look so flat.. It's a great piece and I can't wait to see more!! by the way.. where are ya PCS'ing to??

Christine, that's a good drawing! You have good proportions. It looks like you blending the ends of the hair, which is probably not the best thing to do unless you want it fuzzy around the ends like it is. For a more realistic look, you should carefully blend (with a Q-tip or something small) around the ends, not blending the little hairs that stick out by themselves. I hope that helps...I'm still learning. Keep it up!

great job chrissy..in the past ive mainly just drew without blending,so my 1st experiment with using blenders,,and bristol smooth was a nightmare,i felt like i was on roller skates or something,..i cant skate either:-) ,..blending seems to be something you develope a feel for...im getting a little better at it,eventually i want to be able to blend everything cause it is a little faster.
