"Mule Hauling"

Hi all, I am a new member and decided to post one of my latest drawings. This is graphite on watercolor paper and is 10"x16".

Please feel free to comment.

This is a digital camera shot of the entire drawing and a scanned detail.

Greetings from Delaware

Hi Robert, welcome to the forum. I really like your drawing. The detailing is excellent. These are the kinds of drawings I want to do when I grow up (wait a minute, I'm already grown up! . . . I'll have to come up with another excuse). Did you draw this from a photograph? I look forward to seeing more of your drawings.

By the way, you are not Robert Taylor, the well-respected aviation artist are you?

Bill

Hi Bill

I used a historical photo from a book that I have as the basis for this drawing.

No, I am not THE Robert Taylor. He does some mean paintings of ship too. Wish I had his talent.

Bob

That's a great drawing Bob. I was wondering what there was about the source photo that made you want to draw from it? Was it the mule? For me it is. I was immediately taken by the rising front of the mule echoing the rise of the straining chain. It gives the impression that the mule is putting so much power into that pull that it's front is rising to compensate. You've carried it off really well!

MIKE

Yes the mule was the eyecatcher to me too. I am going to attach the original that I worked from.

Hi Absolute

I hope I did not mislead you with the one I refered to as camera shot. That was the only way I could show the entire drawing as my scanner is too small fo include the whole thing. The above post to Mike Sibley shows the original photo.

My camera does not get as good resolution as the scanner and I showed the scanner shot to better show the detail.

Excellent work Bob! This is something I am desparately trying to do at the moment, draw things a little more interesting than kids, but for some reason they keep getting flung at me

As for the Blutac issue. I think it is called wall putty over in the states.

You can buy Blu-Tack from Mike Sibley's site. It's much better than the wall putty that you will find here in the USA. Toby
