"And now for something completely different . . ."

It seems like portraits are the order of the day right now, so i thought I would stir things up a bit with something a little different. This was my first original drawing - done from a photograph (after going through Gene Franks' book, which got me started). It was a gift for my grandfather, who restored this beautiful and historic airplane:

Wow that's spectacular! It looks just like a photograph. The darks on the plane are great and very realistic. It's amazing that that's your first original. I also got my start on drawing by going through one of Gene Frank's books.

Theres only a few things to separate this drawing from perfection.

1.The lines on the propeller-section are too visible.
2. The shadow under the plane is somehow weird particularly under the wings
3. The ground in the front of the "wheelcase" (?) is slightly bent
4. This "lever-thing" coming from the top is somehow different rendered.
5. The landscape far behind is too "even" or not in balance.

All the rest is perfect! I suppose you have also noticed these very minor things, so this comment is probably not a big deal to you. Maybe I am wrong here, but thats what Id do if the drawing was made by me (unluckily its not)

Wow, that is amazing! It does look a lot like a photo, except for the little things that MHK pointed out. I wouldn't have noticed most of those things. It's a really sharp & cool picture!

Jim/Melissa, I'm glad you like my airplane. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.

Quote cant wait to see more of your stuff.

I really don't have that much more stuff. I've got a few more airplane drawings, another portrait, and a barn-type drawing . . . that's about it - SO FAR. I will try to get another drawing posted this weekend.

Very nice drawing Bill.
I like the way you capture the sunlight, that High noon sun over the top of the plane creating very sharp shadows. I Really like the details in the cockpit.

I've Gotta check out the Gene Franks book everybody talks about, I have no clue who he is. Is it one book in particular?

Get drawing!!

Peace!
