"Another Newcomer"
Hi everyone. I just just found this board. I just knew there had to be a community of pencil artists out there somewhere! I am still a beginner and need all the help I can get. The work I've seen in this forum is outstanding, and I look forward to learning from all of you!
I'm going to go ahead and jump in with both feet and post one of my drawings. This is my first full person (although I have done 2 portraits so far). I did this from a snapshot of my son. Dimensions of the actual drawing is about 4x6. Critiques are welcome.

Thanks for the encouragement! This was a pretty intimidating subject for me because I had never tried anything like it before.
Marc, I have studied every drawing you have posted and I am blown away with your talent. Your work kind of reminds be of some of Bob Timberlake's paintings. I want to be like you when I grow up!

Bill, Welcome and I have to say your works are outstanding. I have to ask though if this is only your third portrait what in the world were you drawing before? They are amazing, especially for your first couple of trys. Do you have a formal education in art? What materials do you use. I am amazed at the small size... I havn't been brave enough to try anything under 8x10 and 11 x14. Can't wait to see more works.

Wowee, you can't be a beginner, that is a great drawing (and subject ) and although I welcome you, as we all do, with open arms, personally you've surpassed me already, so I don't know how much help I'll be giving . I'd be interested to know aswell, what you drew before and what experience you've had, because that portrait has some talent behind it!

Thanks so much for the praise. I really didn't expect this kind of response. I don't have any formal education in art. I discovered by accident several years ago that I had a talent, but after I had done 3 or 4 drawings, my friends and family made such a fuss over them that I got intimidated and began to feel like every time I put a pencil to paper I had to produce a work of art. That was more pressure than I was willing to deal with so I just quit. Recently I have decided to jump in with both feet and start making some drawings! (unfortunately right now I am working 70 hrs/week at my real job).
In answer to the another question - I started out drawing airplanes. The first was a gift to my grandfather. I have done 4 airplanes. My total portfolio doesn't amount to more than about a dozen "finished" drawings (SO FAR).
I will post my first airplane in a new thread - not tonight though, I've got to be up again in 5 hours.
