Hi guys,

I'm really sorry I haven't been able to participate here lately. Thank you all for continuing to make this such a wonderful place to exchange knowledge and constructive criticism. I check in when I can and am always impressed with the quality of work.

I have really been swamped with this portrait commission. The reference photos I have to work with are awful! I have to dress them (with my pencil) in formal suits and many times the photos are so blurry I can't even make out their eyes. I have attached one of the reference photos so you can see for your self. Many of the reference pics are available to me in digital format only and I receive them by email. I have attached one of the reference photos so you can see for your self exactly what I have to work from.

Hi JD! What a lovely reference photo! So you havent seen these pga guys before? And just one ref pic? Quite a challenge. No wonder youve been busy with this project. I check out the pga drawings in your site regularly and everything looks pretty good, although the references seem to be worse than hell

Hello JD - your pga portraits are outstanding! I check them out from time to time on your website - they look like photographs. Too bad your reference pics are so terrible, you have quite a challenging project to complete.

that photo is something else,...ive seen police sketches with more detail then that....they should have sent you a text description of what he looked like instead

LOL! I agree, Jim.

Even if the quality of the photo was better I would have problems with this one. It looks like he just rolled out of bed and was taken into the bright sunlight. His hair reminds me of what Einstein said when they asked him what he called his unruly locks. He replied, "Neglect".

Nice to finally hear something from you. I received your book a little while ago and I love it. I am very curious to see how you're going to tackle this one. Good luck with it.

He looks like someone has just plugged him into the mains...... either that or he lost an argument and is a little surprised they actually managed to put his nine iron where they said they would }>

I think some sort of hat may be in order here

Hello JD! What a challenge!!!! No amount of sharpening in photoshop will help this ref. photo!! I am 100% sure you will turn out a perfectly beautiful, accurate and amazing portrait!!

It's really nice to hear from you. I've been checking in to your website regurlarly to see how your portraits are coming along. I thought they were absolutely brilliant, but I had no idea what they were giving you to work with. I don't know how you've done it!!

It is amazing that you can take a pic of this bad quality and draw such outstanding portraits.I have checked out the pga pics and you are doing some outstanding work.Glad to know you're still out there.

You've been doing fantastic work, and from such bad reference photos! I know you can do this one, too, though it's a terrible photo.
