Figured I would post a WIP and let everyone give me some tips before I get any further. I just can't seem to pull off getting hair to look right.. Please give me some pointers.. I am doing this with a standard number 2 pencil... really all I have to work with since I'm doing it when I have spare time at work. It's 8.5 * 11, not exactly sure what weight paper..

Wow! very nice so far. I find jelled hair to be really tough because there's not a lot of midtones, it's usually all highlight and shadow.

When I'm drawing hair I find that I draw just as much with an eraser as i do pencil, pulling out highlights and then softening with a tortillion. The one thing I never do is, rush hair!! What's the sense of spending hours rendering beautiful skin tones to only plant a head of cabbage on top!

I like what you have so far the "King" Is looking Good!!

My opinion: Nose is a little too wide and his right eye shoots slightly too much outward. Make the chin a bit wider, it also compensate too massive forehead. Make wrinkles little smoother. Adjust also hairīs grayscale (more light on to the top).

Nothing big here but I had to say since you asked for it only a few steps next to perfect.

theduke,
The lines in the shirt are coming along nicely. I think the hair would look better if the highlights weren't so wide.

Nice to hear from you J.D. I definitely agree on the hair. Actually, I haven't quite finished the face at all. I got to a point where I thought I would rest from the face and start getting the shirt done, then come back and touch up the face. While doing the shirt I have noticed a few things that I want to "touch up" on his face.. Thanks alot for the comments!!
