I took everyone's advice and left off the back ground. I added detail to the clothing and a few shadows here and there and now have a complete work of art. Tell me what you think. I still have not sprayed it so it can be tweeked some.

Comments please!

Absolutely beautiful, Bobby. You have captured a perfect blend of realism and just plain artistic beauty. I am starting on a portrait of an eleven year old girl for a friend of the family, and your drawing has set the mark for me to strive for. If I get halfway there I will be very happy.

Keep it up!

Bill

That's a great drawing you've done it looks so soft and delicate.

Wow, great job! I think you'll win the contest, too!
While going back and forth between the drawing and the photo, there were a few things I noticed. The girl on the right's chin is not so rounded on the left as you drew it. There's a gentle squareness to her jaw on the left (to us). On the right side (to us) her chin is not so rounded out--yours is almost bulging out. Those are probably not the right words, but I hope you get my meaning. Also, the girl on the left's chin is a bit bigger/squarer in the middle. And the girl on the right's eyebrows look lower down than in the drawing. I know I'm getting picky, so ignore me if you want! It's a lovely drawing overall and looks a lot like the girls in the photo!

Well here it is number 8 I believe of my commissioned projects since July so far. Well when I finish the family it will be 12. Let me know how I am doing again. It seems the scanned picture looks a little wider in the face to me so if you see it too disregard that part. Starting on the clothes and neck next then all done I hope.

Hey, and thanks again. I don't use a brush at all on the hair. This is probably the only place i don't start with one. Different hair different things. This time i used for dark areas a Nero 350 by Creatacolor. Mid tones I used an HB. Light tones 2H. Then I have this little tool that I found. I call it my miracle hair rool. Never saw one before and I bought just because I thought it could do something for me. I kept it for 2 years when I decided to use as a blender on this curlyheaded girl. Oh my God. A miracle had been made. It not only blends but it picks out little hightlights too. And best of all you never have to replace it. At least I haven't yet. Then when every thing is blended the way I want it I take a click eraser and make it pointy with a sharp knife and pull out more highlights. If it looks good there I stop. If not I continue the layering/blending /pulling of highlights until it does.

Bet you want to know what this tool is? Well I can't give away all my secrets now can I?
