Your point was of great value - and I realised it was not a criticism of the work. Eye contact with the viewer is one of the best ways to involve the veiwer with the subject.
Like you I think this drawing is one of the best I have seen for a while. I became drawn into the the drawing without that human eye contact... just wish I could succeed as well in my next work!
well, I guess I must be doing something right. Thank you both for such tremendous input!

Enia, your kitten is really well drawn, I love that "your not worth looking at" cat expression! I also don't mind works that exclude the veiwer, some work so well, that you keep looking anyway..... well done!.......Lynne
