"Hawk WIP"

Hereīs my first bird-drawing, still slight WIP, as usual A4-size, H- B3 graphite, blu-tack, chamois/paper tissue blended. I think its sparrow-hawk (I donīt know anything about birds ), and its sitting on a iron fence (if you wondered what those strange contraptions are ).
So please, all critiques and comments are very welcome.

This is beautiful work, Jukka. I love the way that the clarity of the hawk first attracts my eye and then the sharp detailing of the bird's eye and beak pulls my eye even further into the picture.

And that little tuft of feather sticking out from the breast that marks it out as a being working bird in need of a preen.

   JL,
Very nice work!! I like how the drawing pulls your eyes right towards the birds eye. I have to say that I am a big fan of "birds of prey" and I enjoy looking at different artists takes on the subject. You call this a WIP, I'm looking forward to seeing the final drawing.

Thanks Bluesky, Jim, D.L., Mike, Vickie, Kevin !
Referencephoto is from newspaper, and only 4”x 3” , so I didnīt know if this would work (or fly!? )in details, but I wanted to do something completely freehand, and also something different from all those portraits.
In original photo contrast between the hawk and iron fence really caught my eye, so I decided to try if I can capture it in drawing.
Iīm very clad that you like the drawing and donīt think this will be the first and last bird I draw.
Maybe I should next try some furry critter as hair is my problem in portraits…
Hereīs the latest of this pic, I added some details in it.

Just had to comment again....I like the way you have included the iron fence in the portrait and left it slightly faded,it makes the hawk really pop out.

This is really beautiful and well-considered work. I keep going back for yet another look and it grabs me every time.

I just saved your image to see if I can post it here for you and it turned out to be a .BMP bitmap image. It appears that it has to be either a .JPG or .GIF for this forum to accept it.
