"Billy the Kit"

This is my current work who is a cat called Billy. I'm going to shade the background before I'll say he's done. It's 14"x12" and mostly created with a 4b and f pencil.
All comments are valued.

den thats great..billy' looks like a Tom? cat..pretty big guy?
i noticed the scan looks like it has a grey cast shadow over it that looks familiar to me,i had a lot of problems with my scanner doing the same thing,....my scanner wont pick up very light shading at resolution dpi 72.....so what i do is i took the glass out of a learge picture frame and taped the edges good with black electrical tape...and put it over the other glass....in the pre scan at 72 resolution even the light shading shows up and the paper remains white,..if i do it the normal way with higher resolution...my paper turns grey...it doesnt work for everything...size kind of dictates a little.but i can scan most things 6x6 with no problem at 72 ppi......DPI is how many dots per square inch thats mainly for a better print,....resolution AKA pixels per square is the computer image....you probably already knew that but just incase ,...i thought id mention it anyhow...i just read up on all that stuff about 3 weeks ago.so im still experimenting myself with scanning.
take care
Jim

Scanning can be a real pain, can't it? Even scanning at 16-bit greyscale at 300ppi I still can't capture the really light tones. Fortunately I usually draw to print so I keep my tones a little on the strong side to make life easier for the printer.

So taking all this into consideration I have a fairly good idea of what your original looks like.... and I really like it! Partly because it reminds me of my Louie but mainly because it's such a comfortable pose. The cat looks at home on his bed and your drawing connects the two really well. How long has it taken you to get to this point?

Thanks Jim for your comments and help. I'm afraid I haven't really tried to do much more with the drawing as a family emergency has risen it's head so the cat has had to wait. As the cat is the
love of my daughters life'
this is a surprise for her birthday. I've scanned the cat again in it's finished state so fingers crossed.
Thanks Mike, I can't say the cat is anywhere near the quality of a dog I recently finished but I'll say the first time is a practise and the second attempt is the real try, so I really have another go at it in theory.

Thanks for the new scan - your drawing's looking as wondeful as I imagined it was. Your daughter is going to be absolutely thrilled and delighted!!

I find the pattern very interesting. Normally I'd shy away from including something like that in the belief that it might be distracting. But here you used it perfectly to show the folds and curves of the bed and it works really well.
