"White Horse"

   There's been some discussion of "white" lately, so I thought I'd post a drawing I just finished. It's from a photo I took of a wonderful stallion, "Consensus." I love drawing white horses and would like to hear some of your methods (Mike too;-) ) of drawing white animals. I extensively use 6H and 3H, and the remainder with B. I will be doing a commission of a West Highland White Terrier soon, so this drawing was timely. Suggestions on this one welcome. On Canson bristol, about 10x10.

   Very nice horse. Beautifully sculpted head. I particularly like his muzzle =)

I sat in my livingroom the other day (white walls) and pondered the fact that not one wall was really "white." Kinda got me to thinking that the work I'm trying to do with white is more dealing with relative values....

I think you've done a very nice job convincing the viewer it is a white horse while not really having much "white" there..... Very nice drawing and a beautiful subject to work with!

My 2 cents =}

   Thanks Absolute, Laurie and Colin for your comments. Agree, Laurie, white is so difficult in any medium. I have a white (and I mean white) cockatoo, and have a difficult time in rendering his color. They seem to pick up the color surrounding them, but not too much and I never seem to get it right. Could in pencil however:7
