"Some advice on white fir..."

Hello, I am new to this site and am taken by all the wonderful pencil work! I'm inspired and challenged by what I've seen. So... I posted this in the Drawing forum then realized I ought to be asking questions here since my subjects are animals.

Anyway, I'm working on a commission of 2 chihuahua's and would very much appreciate any suggestions, and am struggling a bit with how to handle the white areas on the forward puppy. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!
Laurie

What a lovely pair of dogs Laurie! Welcome to the forum

I think you're doing just fine with the white area - just enough detail to give a realism but not too much. Just as in life, not everything should be immediately obvious - it's often these subtle touches of line that work really well.

As this is a commission you can afford to be as light as you wish. Only if you were printing from the original would you need to be a little more "heavy handed".

   Thanks Mike,

I struggle with just how much is too much detail. I think I'm learning to get to the "just enough detail to give a realism but not too much" but still struggle with it.

I had considered printing cards, the owners are fine with it. It has been tough to get lighter areas.... I'll have to think about this a bit more.

I have visited your site a few time after coming across it not long ago, wow.... Thank-you for having a link to the ArtPopa site, I would never have stumbled across it on my own I think. It has been so wonderful to see a community of wonderful pencil artists, I had no idea! And to be able to share ideas, etc. is even better.

Thanks again.
