"Heron Around"

Hey folks - final stage of the Heron drawing. I think I am close to finished. It feels finished - but I will put it aside for a day or so and think about it. I would appreciate any comments, suggestions for improvements, etc. etc.

Often when I get so close to my work it is hard to stand back from it and look at it objectively, so any constructive criticism is very helpful.

The final image size (not paper size) is 50cm deep x 25cm wide, or 19" x 9.5" for all those non-metric types.

Looking forward to your comments!

Beautiful work Linda! .....you can here that 'but' coming, can't you!....... well, if you insist...

But... I think it needs trimming at the left-hand side. I feel it's too wide for its height, the extra width is superfluous and it's throwing the Heron too far right. And it's unfinished state is taking the eye left and out of the frame.

If you bring in the left edge so it just overlaps the edge of the post (so there is no unfinished drawing on the left side) I think you'll find it achieves a good balance, adds height to the timber and centres the bird.

It would also move your 50 x 25 towards the more pleasing one-third width to height ratio.

But... (there goes another one! )... that's just personal opinion and doesn't detract at all from your lovely drawing. I really like this one - especially its freshness and clarity.

MIKE
