11. "RE: spotted owl"

Thanks Mike!
ive never actually seen any adult owls,..but i use to let my dog run in the woods while i was checking to see if the fish were running out at a stream and stuff,...he found a baby great horned owl
wich i had no idead what it was until the girl at the zoo i took him to showed me..it looked exactly like a baby eagle
almost like a cartoon character ..huge head ,huge feet and eyes,..
.the girl at the zoo also told me that i was kind of lucky it wasnt an eagle because if it was, the local game wardens would have a few questions for me...i guess its a felony to mess with eagles here in the states....."sigh of relief"
im back to graphite now,..i havent started anything yet im still kind of looking for something that looks interesting enough to finish.
the bad part about woodburning is trying to make thin black lines
...they come out brown,...and to get them darker...you have to get a little wider and it just doesnt work out on some things.but this last one helped me see how i was still using too much graphite in some areas of my drawings.
back to the drawing board once again.

I really, REALLY, like this owl. I have been watching it develop since you first posted and meant to tell you earlier - wonderful

I know nothing at all about woodburning or how it is done, so tell me please... it seems like you have used the wood grain to highlight and accentuate the shape and feathers. You did this on purpose, right? How hard is it to plan a piece with this in mind?

I like to use different paper surfaces and textures that compliment the subject I draw... but having to deal with wood grain would totally boggle my brain!
