Ok... Let's start with our first lesson.
The first thing to do is to install the "Macromedia Dreamweaver MX". You can find it at:

http://www.macromedia.com/software/trial_download/

Ps: I'm not getting any money from macromedia. I use this software because it's really good.

When you go to this adress you need to register and then download the trial software.
After the download is done. Just click twice and "voilā"! the install begins. Then run tre program and click "try". This program will work for 30 days. If you like you can buy.

Any doubts write back, ok?

Now we are going to plan a very simple site. If you don't have any experience you can start here.
I will show how to do a map, to link few pages, to create a navegation bar, to scan and resize your pictures, etc.
Let's start with a map. When you plan a site the first thing to do is get a paper and construct a map. So you don't take risks to miss some page.

This is a very simple map of a very simple site.
After I will show you how would be our design for this site. The point is: to do all the stuffs first in a paper then go to a computer, ok?

Ps: don't worry with the dreamweaver right now. Wait until we define how our site design should be.

I did a simple draw to use as background. Do the same. Create your own environment.(If you preffer you can get free cliparts at http://www.havanastreet.com/)
After that scan the image in jpg or gif format trying to keep the image up to 30 Kb.
We will use this image to construct our bottons.

Note that this is a very simple way to construct a site. After these lessons, I will show how to do complexes designs using the "fireworks MX" from macromedia.

In the next reply I will show you how to resize the image in the Corel Draw Software.

Ok... after you scan your image you discover that it is very, very larger than 30 Kb. Maybe 10 MB? Donīt get scary. First open your image - that you just scan and saved - in Corel Photo Paint (or another application). See the picture below.

When you open you think: "Oh my God is too big!!!"

You must know that is not enough just click in the "zoom lens" to resize the picture. You need to look for at the main menu --> image > resize.
(see below)
PS: I only have the portuguese version of the Corel, sorry. But the positions of the keys are the same.

Ok... Now choice a good size for your background. I choose 731 x 541. Why? You ask...

Itīs because the majority of the resolution of the monitors are 800x600 pixels. Then I concluded that I need to resize my image up to 800x600. So... my user donīt have to scroll the screen to see my background.

PS: sorry about my english. I know is too bad.

Now letīs export the file.

Click: File > Export > Export.

A Dialog Box will appear. Choice the place where you want to save your new and resized file.
Hit the view bottom (then you can view if your file is not too much compacted) and the slice bottons to find the best position. Then click ok.

Ok guys!!
Now you get a resized File. Any doubts please ask me, ok? I hope we donīt have any problem with the idiom. But if is not okay for you just tell me.

Now letīs go to the funny part!

Letīs define a new site!!!

First create a folder inside of "my documents" folder. There will be located your local files.

Local files!!!!???? What is this????? - You ask.
We need to create all the entire site in our computer first and then upload it to a remote computer.

Local Computer ----------------------> Remote Computer.

Then every body will be able to see your "new simple didatic site"

Since You've created your local folder, start you Dreamweaver MX. Click Try button and let the first option selected (dreamweaver MX layout).
Select the New users button (DESIGN) (see figure below).
You can read the instructions that will appear then close the inicial panel.

Now you will get the second image below.

Letīs now configure our site. Press in the main menu SITE > SITE FILES (or F8). Another screen will appear on the right side of the screen(see third figure below). This panel is a kind of a site manager.
