"the effect of music while you paint"

If you paint abstract, do you listen to hard rock? Classic, Mozart? Western art, country? Does tempo, beat, affect your speed?..Still life, landscape..is it an influence?radio, cd's, tv? I guess this is just a poll. does certain music help you connect the painting and the artist?

I tend to listen to movie soundtrack music. Danny Elfman is a favorite. I found rock and Jazz too insistant, while Classical just distracts me by making me listen too carefully. Soundtracks are supposed to be interesting yet not overpowering, entertaining yet not too complex - perfect for my needs.

On the other hand, whenever I do a sci-fi or horror genre illustration, I slap on the heavy metal. Nothing beats Rob Zombie for inspiration when painting a drooling monster!

I tried listening to classical music while painting Rachmaninov, Roslavets, and Prokofiev. However, I find that I want to mimic the music in my painting technique. Music is too distracting.

I paint in silence now.
