"Oil Chemistry Books?"

   Hi,
Does anyone know of a good reference book on oil paints, recipes, and chemical reactions of different mediums? What can be mixed? What can be used on wet-on-wet? What can be used after a dry application? How much medium to add? What are the extenders in low grade oils? How to achieve crackling if desired?

That kind of stuff, you know the boring scientific end of the hobby?

Thanks...

1. "RE: Oil Chemistry Books?"

   Hi Smooth,

There is a sensational book written By Akke Kumlien who worked as materials manager at the Royal Art College in Stockholm. He goes into extreme detail regarding all the ingredients and combinations of ingredients, I think you would find it useful.

The book in question is 'Oljemåleriet - Akke Kumlien' Norstedts 1946.

If you do not understand written Swedish then this will not be of any use but if you know any Swede willing to help you my recommendation is to buy the book on the net.

I have avoided simple blunders such as blindly using Zink/titanium white, when Titanium white is warmer thanks to his down to earth advice.

Take it easy!
