perhaps if you said what recipe you are using it might be easier to talk about it. whichever you use, i find that using a 300-2000 grit sandpaper, between every layer (and each layer applied perpendicular to the previous layer) floowed by a final layer of gelatine/gesso/whiting, and then going over it with a tight ball of white cloth (i use cloth diapers) dipped in a solution of denatured alcohol and water (and squeezed hard, so that it is only damp) gives a very very smooth surface. i dont like to use sandpaper over the final layer b/c sometimes sandpaper can produce undesirable scratches due to inconsistencies in the sandpapaer. but this applies to cured hardwoods and cured marine plywood. i am not as familiar with masonite and asked the same quesition about it, and like you, so far didnt get any replies. anyway, what recipe are you using for primer? jai guru deva om |
