"oil media, traditional vs. modern"
| |
as far as my memory tells me, traditional oil media includes ...... linseed oil, stand oil, sun-thickened linseed oil, poppyseed oil, and so on ... and ... traditional oil painting owed to natural resins like damar, mastic, copal, and so on ... (oil painting has been around for milennia, but very ancient oil paintings were rather impermanent, as oil itself was biodegradable, not to mention that it was only a several centuries ago before there were workable primer) in the 20th century, thanks to the advances of (organic) chemistry, nowdays, in a typical art supply store, you can find modern 'alkyd' media like ... liquid (winsor & newton), galkyd (gamblin), to name a few ... anyway ... what are your thoughts and opinions regarding modern 'alkyd' media, compared to traditional 'resin' media?
